10 Internet Marketing Principles From The Gym: PART 1Do you think fit people are more successful?

I do.  (Or at least they could be).

After all, to stay fit in today’s society takes drive, commitment and well planned action. Only by paying attention to proper physical training, good eating habits and a healthy lifestyle can one reach and maintain a high level of fitness (and get that body that turns heads).

And frankly, most people don’t have the drive, aren’t committed and don’t take ANY action at all to improve fitness.  “It’s too hard”, “I don’t have time” and “I don’t have the money” are the common excuses.  They would rather spend their time and money on “gimmicks” and quick fixes that promise the world but don’t deliver.

So, what does this have to do with Internet Marketing?

Well, the same characteristics needed to become fit, are the same characteristics needed to become successful online!

For those of you who don’t know, I got my start on the Internet in the fitness industry selling my own fitness ebooks.  (Workout Without Weights, Superior Dumbbell Workout and Athletic Body Workout). And in my option there are two types of people searching for fitness related information online:

- Those looking for the “easy” way to get fit with very limited effort… who will give up instantly when they don’t get outrageous, undeserved results.

- And those who are ready to FOCUS on what really works, take immediate and relentless ACTION and get the RESULTS they deserve.

And I believe it is the same for Internet Marketers.

So, I got to thinking.  If the principles for getting fit and making money online are the same, how can I apply my Top 10 Fitness Principles to Internet Marketing.

Here’s what I came up with:

Fitness Principle #1:
Train The Whole Body As A Complete Unit

Many people like to train the body as if it is a bunch of parts.  They train all the parts separately, and think everything will come together when your body is challenged.  Big Mistake!  Train the body as one complete unit for the more results you can use, feel and see in the real world.

How this applies to Internet Marketing:

There are a lot of different “parts” to Internet Marketing.  Building websites, creating blogs, list building, creating info products, article marketing, viral marketing, traffic generation, affiliate marketing, etc.

But don’t make the mistake of working on your Internet Business as if it’s just a bunch of parts.  Think about how all the parts work together and make everything you do serve multiple purposes.  In this way you’ll build a web business that works efficiently, seamlessly and profitably.

Fitness Principle #2:
Focus On Your Weaknesses For Dramatic Improvement

Many people like to train only on what they’re good at.  They let their ego dictate their training and want to impress people around them.  Unfortunately, their weaknesses become even more pronounced and dangerous imbalances occur.

How this applies to Internet Marketing:

There will be some things you’ll enjoy doing better than others.  And you should build your Internet Business around your strengths.  But don’t ignore the tasks you don’t like doing.  Most likely, if you turn this weak area into a strength, your profits will go up dramatically.

Fitness Principle #3:
Focus On Quality Over Quantity

Properly performed exercises bring about positive changes in your body.  Make ever rep of ever exercise count, and your body rewards you with positive improvements.  Don’t try to do so much that your form becomes sloppy and unproductive.

How this applies to Internet Marketing:

Don’t try to do so much that your quality suffers.  If you’re article marketing… write high quality articles.  If you’re promoting an affiliate program… choose the very best.  The Internet is already full of junk, so don’t contribute to it.  Success on the Internet is determined by how well what you do works, not how much you have out there.  Having 1 product that sells 1000 copies a day is better than having 1000 products that sell 1 copy a day.

Fitness Principle #4:
Train Movements… Not Muscles

Many people get so wrapped up in what muscles they are working that they forget what the muscles are meant to do… move.  Your muscles move your body around, or move objects closer of further away from your body.  This is their purpose.  So concentrate on improving your movements, and the necessary muscle growth will follow.

How this applies to Internet Marketing:

Don’t lose focus of the purpose of your Internet Marketing activities.  Impressive numbers mean nothing if the final objective is not met.  For example, bragging of a BIG list means nothing.  How well you help the people on your list reach their goals and how many become faithful customers does.

Fitness Principle #5: Focus On Core Strength

By core strength I mean not only the strength of the core of your body.  I  also mean how strong you are in the core physical activities necessary for a high level of fitness like power, endurance, agility, balance, coordination, speed, endurance, accuracy and mental toughness.  Your “core” strength is the foundation of your physical ability.

How this applies to Internet Marketing:

Build a strong foundation from which to build your Internet Business.  Every business needs the know-how, web presence and ability to communicate with your subscribers and customers.  Learn the necessary basics of Internet Marketing, build a website or blog that is the pillar of your online activities and use the best autoresponder in the business.

If you don’t lay a strong foundation from which to grow your online business… everything you do online will suffer.

OK, I think that is enough for today.  Tomorrow I will go over the next 5 fitness principles you can apply to Internet Marketing.
